Muskoka Lakes posts a 8.6% budget increase

Tuesday, 2 December 2025 07:26

The increase will cost taxpayers an extra $41 per $300,000 of assessment

The Township of Muskoka Lakes has approved its 2026 Mayor’s Budget, bringing an estimated tax increase of 8.6 per cent.

Staff say 3.6 per cent will support day-to-day operations like administration and emergency services, while the remaining five per cent will fund major upgrades to aging roads, bridges, and facilities. For a home assessed at $300,000, the township portion of the tax bill will rise by just over $41.

The plan includes $8.7 million for road work, nearly $4 million for facility maintenance, and $3.6 million for fire and emergency services. Mayor Peter Kelley says the budget reflects shared community priorities and long-term planning.
