The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is warning residents that the risk of West Nile virus remains high, even as temperatures start to feel more like fall.
The warning follows a confirmed human case in Simcoe County, along with 5 birds and 1 horse testing positive for the virus.
The health unit says mosquitoes remain active until the first hard frost. Residents are advised to use insect repellent, cover exposed skin, remove standing water and make sure window screens are in good condition.
Most people don’t develop symptoms, but West Nile can cause serious illness.
