The referee stopped the fight then reversed his decision
Kyle Nelson earned a win at UFC Vancouver on Saturday, but a referee’s odd call stole what should have been a knockout.
Late in the first round, Nelson had Matt Frevola stunned on the ground and was landing heavy shots when referee Dan Miragliotta stepped in to stop the fight—with three seconds left. Moments later, Miragliotta reversed himself, saying the round wasn’t over, leaving Nelson confused and nearly exhausted.
Despite the chaos, Nelson went on to win by unanimous decision, though many fans say he should have won the fight earlier.
UFC officials explained the referee thought he heard the horn, even though it wasn’t audible on the broadcast.
