Local officials meet with province over State of Emergency

Wednesday, 2 April 2025 08:00

The District is coordinating with local and provincial partners to support recovery efforts.

The District of Muskoka remain under a State of Emergency for the 4th day, as crews work to restore power and clear storm debris from the spring ice storm. The District is coordinating with local and provincial partners to support recovery efforts.

Bracebridge Mayor Rick Maloney says he appreciates the concern and support the District has received from Minister of Municipal Affairs & Housing Rob Flack, Minister of Energy & Mines Stephen Lecce, Minister of Emergency Preparedness & Response Jill Dunlop and especially Associate Minister of Municipal Affairs & Housing & our MPP Graydon Smith as the community recovers from the weekend storm.

Minister Dunlop and Associate Minister Smith met with Town & District officials yesterday to get a full briefing.

To help with clean-up, the District is temporarily waiving fees for storm-related brush disposal at transfer stations starting April 1, except for Ridout and McLean locations. Food banks and warming centers remain open, and curbside waste collection is being evaluated daily.

The State of Emergency will stay in place until power is restored to most residents and roads are safe.
