Huntsville road crews say the weather has required extra sand and salt this winter
Huntsville’s operations manager says it’s been a demanding winter for municipal crews.
Brandon Hall told councillors the Town maintains 380 kilometres of roads with round-the-clock shifts and has already used more than 500 tonnes of salt.
Temperature swings have meant extra sanding and salting, along with added strain on equipment and staff.
High-volume roads are cleared to bare pavement, while rural routes remain snow-packed under provincial standards. Hall says staffing shortages remain a challenge, with a full winter operations review coming to council this spring.
