Turtle eggs, milkweed and other culturally important plants were re-located
More than 1,100 turtle eggs have been rescued during road work along Twelve Mile Bay Road.
The eggs, from four different turtle species, were collected from areas at risk during construction and moved to an incubation facility.
The project involved the Moose Deer Point First Nation, Generations Effect and the District of Muskoka. Teams also relocated turtles, milkweed, monarch butterflies and culturally important plants.
Once they hatch, the young turtles will be released into wetlands near where the eggs were originally found.
