Premiers wrap up 3 days of meetings at Deerhurst

Thursday, 24 July 2025 07:31

The Prime Minister joined Doug Ford at his cottage

Yesterday, Canada's premiers concluded three days of high-stakes meetings at Deerhurst, with Prime Minister Mark Carney and host Premier Doug Ford front and center. The leaders converged in Huntsville to forge a united front amidst rising trade tensions with the U.S. Premier Ford showcased his hospitality by hosting Prime Minister Carney at his own cottage for a late-night dinner, where, as Ford joked, they were uplate "solving all the world's problems."

Ford was notably effusive in his praise for Carney, calling him "humble" and a "brilliant businessman." Discussions focused heavily on the looming August 1st deadline for potential U.S. tariffs, though leaders downplayed the urgency, emphasizing the importance of securing the best possible deal for Canadians, regardless of the timeline.

In a significant move to strengthen the domestic economy, several provinces also signed new agreements aimed at breaking down internal trade barriers and boosting interprovincial commerce.
