Police say CRA scams are on the rise
As tax season gets underway, the Ontario Provincial Police are warning residents about a spike in scams impersonating the Canada Revenue Agency.
Fraudsters are using emails, texts and phone calls to demand payments or promise fake refunds.
Police say the CRA will never request personal information by email, send refunds by e-transfer, or threaten arrest.
Residents are urged not to click suspicious links and to report suspected scams to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre as authorities work to curb tax-related fraud.
