Police say 60% of individuals with dementia will become lost at some point

The OPP is reminding families and caregivers to take steps to protect people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, especially when wandering or going missing becomes a concern.

The Alzheimer Society of Ontario says about 60 percent of people with dementia will become lost at some point. The OPP recommends combining tracking devices with community programs to help locate people quickly and safely.

One option is Project Lifesaver, where participants wear a transmitter bracelet that officers can track if someone goes missing. The program is now in place in more than 20 OPP-policed communities across Ontario.
