Ontario’s new province-wide blue bin program is now in effect with the national non-profit Circular Materials is running the system, taking over from municipalities under rules that make producers responsible for recycling their packaging and paper products.
Accepted items include paper, cardboard, and boxboard like newspapers, magazines, gift boxes, and pizza boxes; plastics like bottles, tubs, trays, and flexible bags; metals including food cans, aluminum trays, and aerosols for food or personal care; and glass jars and bottles.
Items not accepted include alcoholic beverage containers, soft or hard-covered books, and aerosols labeled toxic, corrosive, or flammable. Homeowners are encouraged to check the full recycling guide on the District website.
