Nearly 350 acres of land in Lake of Bays to be protected in perpetuity

Friday, 10 October 2025 09:40

Needler's Point and Westermain Woods have been donated to The Lake of Bay Heritage Foundation

In a major boost for conservation on Lake of Bays: Westermain Woods Inc. has donated two parcels of land, including the 14-acre Needler’s Point and 334 acres of forest west of South Portage Road.

The biologically rich site is home to more than 244 species, including seven at-risk species, making it a vital area for biodiversity. The Lake of Bays Heritage Foundation will maintain the land in its natural state, allowing access only for scientific study and occasional nature events.

The Foundation says the donation doubles the number of protected acres they manage, securing Westermain Woods in perpetuity.
