The township is applying for funding from the Province's municipal disaster recovery assistance fund
Muskoka Lakes is moving ahead with a request for nearly $784,000 in provincial disaster funding after a severe ice storm hammered the region back in March.
During a council meeting this week, Financial Analyst Keyaira Guy outlined a long list of unplanned expenses tied to storm cleanup and infrastructure damage.
The Township is now preparing to apply through Ontario’s Municipal Disaster Recovery Assistance Program, which helps cover extraordinary costs from natural disasters.
Councillors heard that the municipality is still refining the final number and have until July 28 to submit a full breakdown of costs.
If approved, the funding would help ease the financial strain on the township’s budget as recovery efforts continue.
