The new beds will be located at the Granite Ridge Retirement Residence
Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare is expanding transitional care capacity in Gravenhurst.
The organization says five beds at Granite Ridge Retirement Residence are being redesignated as Alternate Health Facility beds, effectively making them part of the hospital system.
The change will allow the beds to support patients who no longer need acute care but are waiting for placement in rehab or long-term care.
Officials say the move will help improve patient flow and free up space in local hospitals, with stays expected to be under 90 days.
