Magnetawan is expropriating land at the town’s four corners for a new grant-funded public space
The Municipality of Magnetawan is moving forward with expropriation of land at the town’s four corners, formerly home to June’s Restaurant and the Magnetawan General Store, to create a new public space.
Officials say a grant will cover the full cost of purchasing and developing the space, including gardens, seating, play areas, Wi-Fi, and parking, with no cost to taxpayers. Council says the project will revitalize the town centre and benefit residents, businesses, and visitors.
However, some residents are questioning the move, and if the costs truly account for potential litigation or lost economic opportunities.
The Municipality says fair market value will be paid, and the expropriation includes an appeal process.
