The documentary about local advocate Joyce Jonthan Crone beat out 47 entries
The locally shot indigenous short documentary Red Girl Rising has won Best Short Documentary at the Red Nation International Film Festival in Beverly Hills.
The film, which tells the story of Joyce Jonathan Crone and her journey of identity and cultural reclamation, stood out among 47 short documentaries from around the world.
Producers Faith Howe, Kim Stadfeld, and Rachel McLean celebrated the win, noting its importance for Indigenous women and Canadian film representation. Crone says the recognition felt “surreal” and dedicated the award to her Huntsville community.
The Red Nation International Film Festival, the largest Indigenous film festival globally, showcases Indigenous voices and stories, promoting hope, cultural pride, and community unity through cinema.
