The facility will remain closed until the municipality completes a safety assessment
The Lake of Bays Community Centre, Library and Arena in Baysville remains closed after serious concerns were discovered during construction work tied to a planned geothermal upgrade.
The Lake of Bays says crews identified unexpected subsurface movement inside the facility and in sections of the adjacent parking lot while preparing for future heating and cooling system upgrades.
Officials confirm there is damage to electrical and plumbing systems, and the full scope is still being evaluated by engineers on site.
Out of caution, the facility was shut down to allow for a complete safety assessment.
The township says the facility will not reopen until it is confirmed safe, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
