Layla Sewell designed a T-shirt for National Orange Shirt Day

A grade six student from Pine Glen Elementary in Huntsville is being recognized for her creativity.

Layla Sewell has won a scholarship from Hope Arises Project after participating in an interactive Indigenous Day at Muskoka Heritage Place this past June.

Students explored 15 Indigenous-themed stations, including designing a T-shirt for National Orange Shirt Day and Truth and Reconciliation Day.

Layla’s winning design shows a young girl waving goodbye, honoring the children of residential schools.

Limited edition shirts featuring her artwork are available at The Great Vine in Huntsville or online at hopearises.ca.
