Huntsville begins roadside mowing

Friday, 20 June 2025 08:30

Residents are asked to identify milkweed on the side of the road

The Town of Huntsville will begin roadside mowing the week of June 23 to improve drainage and maintain clear sightlines for drivers and pedestrians.

Residents who want to help protect Monarch Butterfly habitat are asked to tie yellow ribbons around milkweed plants growing along the roadside. Mowing crews will try to avoid those plants, unless they pose a safety risk on curves or near intersections.

Milkweed is the primary breeding ground and food source for Monarchs, a species listed as “Special Concern” by Environment Ontario.
