The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is warning drug users and their caregivers about a major change in the unregulated drug supply.
Benzodiazepines—commonly found in street opioids in recent years—are now showing up in much lower amounts, or not at all, according to testing done by a Toronto drug checking service.
That sudden drop could lead to unexpected withdrawal symptoms in people who’ve become dependent, including potentially life-threatening effects.
The health unit says awareness is key and urges caution for anyone using street drugs.
