He was Bracebridge's longest serving mayor
Bracebridge is mourning the death of former mayor Jim Lang.
Lang died Monday at the age of 89. He served on council beginning in 1971 and was mayor from 1975 to 1994, making him the town’s longest-serving mayor.
During his 19 years as mayor, Bracebridge saw major growth, including the Wellington Street Bridge and the development of Bracebridge Bay and Kirby’s Beach.
His legacy also includes the J. D. Lang Activity Park, which remains a major community gathering place. Flags at municipal facilities are flying at half-mast.
