Firefighters save neighbouring homes battling house fire

Wednesday, 8 October 2025 08:36

30 firefighters and nine apparatus responded to the fire

Fire crews battled an intense early-morning blaze in Lake of Bays on Tuesday.

Around 4:20 a.m. on October 7, the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department was called to a structure fire on Delbrooke Road. When firefighters arrived, a home and vehicle were fully engulfed, with flames spreading toward nearby houses.

Thirty firefighters from four stations — with help from Algonquin Highlands Fire Services — worked for seven hours to bring the fire under control. The homeowner and their dog escaped safely, thanks to working smoke alarms that provided early warning.

Investigators say the fire started outside the home, but the cause couldn’t be confirmed due to extensive damage.

The department is reminding residents to test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms regularly and to practice a home fire escape plan — early warning and preparation save lives.
