Environment Canada is warning of intense snow squalls hitting the region today and continuing tonight, with conditions deteriorating quickly. Snowfall totals could reach between 20 and 45 centimetres, with even higher amounts possible in some areas.
Visibility may drop to near zero at times as heavy snow and strong winds move through.
Snowfall rates could reach up to 10 centimetres an hour. Travel is expected to be extremely hazardous, with possible road closures and power outages.
Drivers are being urged to avoid non-essential travel until conditions improve.
