The programs are designed to increase the amount of affordable housing options in the district
The District of Muskoka is rolling out new programs aimed at making housing more affordable across the region.
Applications are now open for a Development Charges Forgivable Loan Program, offering up to 15-thousand dollars to help first-time homebuyers cover building fees. The loan is forgiven after three years if conditions are met.
At the same time, a new Head Lease Funding Program will see the District lease rental units from landlords, then offer them to residents in need of affordable housing.
Officials say the dual approach is designed to both help buyers get into the market and boost rental supply.
