The District of Muskoka is holding a public information session later this month to discuss proposed updates to floodplain mapping and environmental policies.
The changes are part of the Muskoka Official Plan review and are designed to improve flood protection, guide future development and address changing environmental conditions.
The District has updated floodplain mapping for 96 lakes and rivers using new technology and current watershed data following several major flooding events.
Officials say most existing homes and cottages in affected areas will still be able to undergo repairs, rebuilds and some renovations, subject to approvals.
The public meeting takes place July 23 at the Gravenhurst Centennial Centre, with presentations beginning at 6 p.m. and information tables available afterward.
