CO alarms will be required on on every story starting January 1st
Starting January 1st, Ontario’s Fire Code will require carbon monoxide alarms on every storey of any home with a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace, or attached garage.
The rule also applies to condos, apartments, hotels, motels, and care homes.
Fire officials say CO is a “silent killer,” impossible to detect without an alarm and potentially deadly within minutes.
They’re urging residents to install alarms now and take the regulation seriously.
Anyone with questions can contact their local Fire Department.
