A formal resignation is expected in the coming days
Conservative MP Scott Aitchison is expected to resign his seat in Parliament by the end of the year.
According to CTV news a source close to Aitchison says the Parry Sound-Muskoka MP has decided to step away after 30 years in elected office and pursue other opportunities. A formal announcement is expected in the coming days.
Aitchison reportedly told Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre about his decision last week.
He has represented Parry Sound-Muskoka federally since 2019, after serving as Huntsville’s mayor from 2014 to 2019. He also ran for the Conservative leadership in 2022.
Aitchison would be the eighth Conservative MP to leave Poilievre’s caucus in less than a year.
