The province will select a new chair for the next term of District Council
Muskoka’s next District Chair will be selected through a new provincial appointment process, with applications now open for the role.
The province says the position will help guide regional priorities, including housing and infrastructure, under expanded “strong chair” powers taking effect later this year. The appointed chair will serve from November 2026 until 2030 and will have new authority over areas such as budgets and senior administration.
Some District councillors have questioned the process, saying the province is taking more control away from local government.
Applications remain open until July 13th.
