Almaguin municipalities flooding causing widespread disruption

Thursday, 16 April 2026 10:55

Drivers are urged to use extreme caution, obey closures and in Magnetawan - stay off the roads

Flooding continues to cause widespread disruption across Almaguin, with several municipalities declaring significant weather events as rising water, snowmelt, and rainfall continue to impact the region.

In Perry, a culvert failure in Emsdale has shut down Deer Lake Road between civic addresses 491 and 511. Motorists are being detoured via Highway 518 and Bevans Road, and officials say there is no timeline for reopening.

In McMurrich/Monteith Twp., a significant weather event remains in effect with multiple closures, including Bourdeau Road, Second Avenue, Stisted Road South, Fourth Avenue, and Fern Glen Road. Officials warn additional closures are possible as runoff continues through April 17.

In Ryerson Twp., officials declared a significant weather event following sustained heavy rain. Royston Extension and Rosskopf Road are closed, and flooding is also reported near the Armour border along Stoney Road and Hill and Gully Road.

In Strong, rising water levels are triggering new washouts hour by hour. Closed roads include sections of Adams Road, Pevensey Road near Kent’s Mills Road, South Lake Bernard Road near the Northridge Inn, and Rodeo Road at Brookside Road and civic 771. A sandbag station has been set up at the public works yard.

In Armour Township, severe washouts have isolated several residential pockets. Cherry Hill Road is closed east of civic 460, while Chetwynd Road is shut between civic addresses 2363 and 2519 near the Kearney border. Crews are also monitoring an active washout at Lakeview Crescent.

In Magnetawan, officials are urging residents to stay off the roads entirely as crews deal with widespread washouts. Major closures include Gordon Road, River Road, Rosskopf Road, and North Horn Lake Road. All municipal docks and the locks are closed, and some residents are being asked to seek alternative accommodation.

In Kearney, public works crews are responding to multiple trouble spots. Rain Lake Road is closed just past civic address 937, with no reopening date set. Officials are asking drivers to use extreme caution on all municipal roads.
